Join our 2 day Gravel trip to the Waterberg at the beginning of August.
On the first weekend of August, join us for a Gravel bike trip to the Waterberg, spending one night at a game lodge, before the second day's ride back towards the big smoke.
The trip is based on gravel bikes, but mountain bikes are welcomed. Road bikes will struggle so are not an option!!
Having spent ample time riding in the Waterberg, on our edition of the October Escape to the Waterberg in 2017, we have decided that there is no better way to explore the area, but on gravel, that means a mix of tar and dirt roads!
The weekend of the 3rd & 4th of August 2019
Departing by vehicle from JHB to the start point.
Ride to take place from Modimolle, heading north traversing the Waterberg, on a mixture of surfaces, before arriving at our game lodge at Olievenfontein Private Game Reserve to spend one night.
Return ride over a different route on day 2, ending near Bela Bela.
Day 1 - distance 174km (Full Option)
The day consists of 6 sections:
Tar - Section 1 - 10km (Flat)
Dirt - Section2 - 33km ** (Long undulating climb and gentle down)
Tar - Section 3 - 25km (2 x climbs of steady gradient to the top of the Waterberg Range)
Dirt - Section 4 - 48km *** (Undulating then long downwards sections)
Tar - Section 5 - 40km (Includes a spectaular 10km climb )
Dirt - Section 6 - 18km **** (long drags with challenging downhill and some sand in places to end)
There is also a 'shortcut' on the first day, for those that would like to spend less time out there, and shorten the final tar section;
Day 1 'Short' Option - 140km (which has an alternative routing on the Section 4 - which will bring the riders onto the last 5km of the section 5 Tar stretch, omitting the tar climb, so a bit more MTB friendly)
Day 2 - distance 94km
Dirt - Section 1 - 60km ***
Tar - Section 2 - 14km (Undulating downwards)
Dirt - Section 3 - 5km**** (Flat & Sandy sections)
Dirt - Section 4 - 8km *** (Gentle drags with Sandy patches)
Dirt - Section 5 - 7km * (Flat to downwards on good surface)
Ride to end at SilverStreams - Lunch and Shower. Depart for JHB
